ABOUT THE PROJECT
Walking. Arte in cammino is a long-term research curatorial project ideated by Michela Lupieri and Giuseppe Favi, specifically conceived for Carnia, a land located in the Alps of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region on the border with Carinzia (Aut) and Veneto (It). The project’s aim is to connect the approaches and interventions on the Alps, which belong to contemporary visual arts’, through the walking practice. Apparently simple, the walking practice is able to blend distant spheres, as art and high altitudes are. Moreover, from past to present, the walking practice has deeply characterized Carnia’s tradition. Since it goes through stories, activities, events and historical traditions that are intertwined with the territory, it belongs to the “portatrici carniche” and the mountain pastures, to the ancient Roman passage and modern shelters.
Conceived as a container, for each edition the project intents to change shape by taking place in different locations and meeting new challenges, trying to turn back on and rethink the mountain territory. Taking place in a decentralized area as Carnia is, Walking’s aim is to query on the issues of centre and periphery, by abolishing the distance between art system and local community in terms of a participatory project.
